Weapons
The 36th Armored Infantry Regiment used a number of available weapons during World War II, and we as reenactors also use the same type of weapons for reenacting. Our weapons are real live weapons that have been adapted to fire blanks by use of a blank adaptor that restricts the gas flow in the barrel and causes the action to work. As with any live weapon, they are not toys and can cause serious harm or death if misused. Below are examples of weapons we currently have in the unit.
M1 Garand .30 caliber rifle
The M1 Rifle was the backbone of the US Armed forces during WW2. It is a gas operated, .30 caliber (.30-06), 8 shot, clip fed semi-automatic only weapon. The majority of Infantry troops were issued this rifle. This is the standard weapon for use in our unit.
M1 Carbine
The M1 .30 caliber carbine was another common weapon in WW2. Originally developed as a substitute for issuance of the 1911a1 pistol, it's light weight and firepower quickly made it a popular rifle to have with armored infantry troops. The rifle is a gas operated, .30 caliber (.30 carbine round), semi-auto only magazine fed weapon. During WW2 these weapons generally did not have the bayonet lug and were issued with 15 round box magazines as shown here. The .30 carbine properly blank adapted (by tapping the barrel) is an approved weapon for reenacting with our unit.
1928a1 SMG .45 ACP Thompson
The 1928a1 Thompson Sub Machine gun is a .45 ACP caliber, blowback operated, semi and fully automatic, fed from 20 or 30 round magazines or 50 and 100 round drum magazines. This weapon was generally issued to NCO's and OFficers however many also found their way into infantryman's hands with the armored infantry and is an approved weapon for use with our unit. The above example shown is a current production replica from Kahr Arms that has been legally converted from the long barrelled weapon to a Short Barrelled Rifle. This example fires only semi-auto. All thompsons in the unit are required to have the short barrel and be legally registered with the BATFE.
1911a1 .45 Pistol
The 1911A1 .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) Pistol was the standard sidearm of WW2. It was common amoung officers, NCOs, Tankers, Vehicle operators and often found with support weapon operators as well. It is a recoil operated, .45 caliber, semi automatic pistol that is fed by a 7 round detachable box magazine. Members must have approval from the unit leadership to carry and use the 1911a1 at reenactments.

1919a4 .30 caliber Machine Gun
The 1919a4 machine gun was the backbone of the infantry squad. It is a recoil operated, .30 caliber, belt fed, air cooled machine gun that fires from a closed bolt position. These guns were used either on a vehicle mount or off a tripod mount. The example shown above is a newly manufactured semi-auto rifle 1919a4 and is set up for firing blanks in the .308 caliber. All 1919's are approved for use by all members.
